How to Play Omaha High/Low

Poker was once a fringe activity that was played by few and was considered daunting and unapproachable to many. The stigmas and misconceptions surrounding Poker prevented the game from appealing to the main stream market. That was then, and times have changed. Poker is one of the fastest growing games/sports in the world. It captures media attention and gains legions of fans on an almost daily basis. One of the main reasons for Poker’s increased acceptance by society is its learning curve that is tailored to the individual. Poker’s popularity has spawned a slew of Poker games that are slowly gain popularity. Simple to learn, yet difficult to master, Poker is quickly becoming a social necessity in many cultures.
Omaha High/Low
One of the most popular Poker games is called Omaha High/Low. Derived from the standard Omaha Poker, High/Low is gaining popularity both on the web, and on the table. In Omaha High/Low there are two winners who split the spoils at the game’s conclusion. The winners enjoy the highest and lowest hands respectively. This brings an intense amount of strategy, enjoyment, and possibility to Omaha High/Low.
Texas Holdem and Omaha employ many of the same rules. For example, both games use the three card flop method, then a fourth and fifth card respectively. However, in Omaha, players receive a four card hand (hole cards) as opposed to two at the beginning of each round. A hand only qualifies if it uses exactly two cards from the hole and three cards from the board. In case of a showdown, it is considered correct etiquette to show your hand, especially in Europe. Rules of Omaha
In Omaha, as opposed to Holdem, you cannot play the board. All other rules apply. (Remember, you are obligated to use two cards from your hand (hole) and three from the board)
Omaha High/Low

Rules for Omaha High/Low
Omaha High/Low and Omaha share the same rules except for the following:
The default rule for most games is an 8 or better for low used during high/low split. If there is no legal hand for low, the strongest high hand wins.
This game is not difficult to learn and as it is one of the more popular ones to play both on the Internet as well as in regular casinos all over the world it is worth getting to know the game. Try to practice in free poker rooms where other players won’t mind if you make a mistake when playing. Playing as many games as you can is the key to becoming the best poker player that you can be and only then will you be able to take on great players in poker tournaments.
