The Rules of Craps

If you had to pick just one of the casino table games that is the most fun, most people would without a doubt pick craps. Craps is considered to be one of the most exciting and fast paced games you can find in any casino. You can usually find the craps table without looking too hard because it is the one that has the most cheering and shouting as well as the unmistakable sound of hands meeting in victorious high fives.

Craps is a game of action that is filled with drama and the potential of winning huge amounts of money in just a short period of time. When you choose the right bets when you are playing, you can be paid out the gambler friendly odds of better than 99%.

Basic Rules of Craps
To play craps you need two dice each having six sides. The sets of dice used in casinos are engineered with precision to very stringent standards as to weight and size. This is done in order to cut the odds of any one of the six numbers appearing more or less than the others. Dice usually have the symbol for the casino imprinted on them and also with a code that is unique to each individual set of dice. When you play craps online, there are generators for random numbers that are intensely audited and tested to be sure that there is no type of bias.

All players at the craps table get a chance to throw the dice. Turns are determined in a clockwise fashion, though you are not required to throw the dice if you don’t wish to. There are many people that turn down the chance at a few throws of the dice, so don’t feel as if you will stand out if you refuse.

The person who throws the dice at present is called the shooter. What number the shooter throws decides if whatever bets has been placed on the table has been lost won or if they are to remain in the play. The shooter has to throw the dice from one end of the table to the other end and most casinos require that you hit the back wall to be sure that there is no cheating and the dice aren’t loaded.

The idea behind the game of craps is to roll what is referred to as a “point.” This can be any number from 4-10 on the first roll the shooter throws which is called the “come out.” Once the point is determined, the person throwing the dice will want to hit the same number again before they roll a 7. Once a shooter rolls a 7, they lose the point and the game begins once again. If the shooter throws the point before he rolls a 7, the game starts again after that too.

Betting on Craps
The premise of craps itself is simple enough; what makes it confusing and complicated is the wide range of bets that players at the craps table can make on what the outcome of each roll of the dice will be. The craps table is fairly large, about the average size of a table for billiards. It has been designed so that between 12-24 players may play at the same time. Both sides of the craps table are identical and in the centre is where the proposition wagers are put if you are risky enough to try to win on odds that are most unfavourable.

The areas on the side have different areas for all of the many possibilities of bets you may make. There are bets for Don’t Pass Line, Pass, Don’t Come and Come as well as placing bets on any of the numbers from 4-10. There are Field bets, Big 8 and Big 6 bets you can make too. The easiest way to learn how the game is played is buying reading the rules and then watching the game being played. The game is especially easy to learn if you find an online casino that allows you to play with pretend stakes. This gives you an opportunity to learn the different wagers you may make and fine tune your skills before actually attempting to play the game on the floor of the casino.
